Love is in the air.
A little glimpse of my inner world.
The jazz, the what? The jazz to move that ass
Check me on http://www.wevegotthejazz.com/, a music (mainly hip-hop related) blog based in Toronto/California. I will be doing minimal posts, and focusing more on interviewing. First person in the works is DJ Chicken George, a real cool cat from Austin, Texas who pumps out Down-tempo / Nu-Jazz / Soul mixes that he’s titled Jazztronica. Oodles and Oodles of “vibes & positive rhythms.” CG usually releases weekly podcasts that are recorded from gigs or just projects that he gets inspired to do. One week he put one out with straight 45s! (Check that here). Anyways, stay tuned
Prayer of St. Theresa
I went to a yoga class this evening, and the teacher ended with this prayer… a nice reminder that made my heart smile
May today there be peace within.
May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities…
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you….
Let this presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.
The days are lasting longer, the goats are out…. February is going to be a goooooood month
Best sushi I’ve had in awhile (Nanaimo, BC)
“What y’all wanna do?
Wanna be ballers? Shot-callers?”
It was soooo good to finally have a completely pleasure-filled weekend. I don’t remember the last time I have had the luxury of just being out with friends all day and night. With nothing holding me back, I spent my weekend eating, window shopping, eating, checking out artsy/creative things, conversing, eating. Oh, and a lot of laughter in between all that. No weighing thoughts on the mind, no school to think about. Just living in the present moment. Feels good, mutha fuckas!! (I say that with love)
It’s funny because about a week prior to this past weekend, I was itchin to be around male energy. Ladies, do you know what I mean? You love your girlfriends fresh to death, but there are those times when you just wanna kick it with your boys, and dip into the testosterone for a minute. It’s always refreshing to change your conversations up. Every time I hang with my dude friends, I always get the chance to exchange & share knowledge, decode tons of information, understand the different perspectives they have, appreciate the similarities we do have, bullshit (and party), help them with their ish (cuz God know they need it. jokes. I roll deep with the good fellas), and observe things that are unique to men.
Well, my weekend was definitely all of that and a bag of Lay’s Ketchup chips (good times). While working hard and being on your grind is beneficial to yourself in the long run, letting everything go for a weekend is just as important. It’s perfectly sane to indulge a little! We all need to chill out once in awhile… You gotta do what you gotta do to make yourself happy! Anyways, thank you gentlemen (and of course N, L, & C) for the dope weekend. It’s been a pleasure!
These waffles were such a delight. That’s the word I would use to describe them: delightful. haha. Sauces: white chocolate, raspberry, raspberry caramel.
Cafe Medina | Vancouver, BC
A sign hangs above Cafe Medina’s front door outside: “Life is too short for bad coffee.” 1 lavender latte and 2 raspberry caramel lattes.

Happy Birthington Krispi!
justeezy x krispi | Santa Monica, California | August 2010 << this night was tha bomb diggity.
I wish we could have done a regular “josti & krispi night out,” and celebrated your birthday with ya, but “I’m comin’ home for the holidays!” (c) J. Cole xoxo
Thankful: conscious of benefit received (Merriam-Webster).
You know who you are:
I don’t need a day like Thanksgiving to remind me what I am thankful for. I am thankful for all of you everyday. What I am the most thankful for at the moment though, is how rich my life is, because of you (you = all y’all). I definitely benefit from your existence in my world. So, thank you for being you. It has changed my life for the better :] xoxo
Now Playing: V (Valvin Roane) – Best Friend
Props to the homie krispi for sharing this. We randomly met V one night in NY and discovered that he was(/is?) a back-up singer for Jill Scott. Glad to see you pumpin your own music V, the world needs to hear more of your voice!
My landlord lady came home with this the other night. Ahh the little things in life that make you smile!
justeezy’s top 6 men ego-zappers
sidenote: I don’t even know if that title makes sense (it doesn’t). But all I know is I’m hungover, mindf*cked, procrastinating, and I like weird and confusing sounding things like that.
The other day my homie Pat tweeted, “To me R&B music is 100% Fall season music.” I didn’t realize until reading his tweet that it was the same case for me. I would be lying if I said my current playlists did not consist of tracks with slower tempos, lamenting instruments, and emotional voices. What is it about Fall that makes me vibe with R&B/Soul/Jazz/Reggae/Blues the most? I guess like many of you, I have always associated Fall with change. The slow, sloth-like kind of change. The kind that makes you stretch, crack, and grow.
So yes, I suppose it makes sense that I listen to some soothin’ tunes when my days as of late, feel like a never-ending trek up a steep mountain. Life feels crazy right now, and my growing muscles and bones are almost at their limit. It almost makes me want to give up. Almost.
Listening to music like the gentlemen in the image above – hearing their melancholy or jubilation – reminds me that I’m not the only one who is fighting for the life I feel I deserve. Connecting with these genres zaps my ego out of victim mode and probes my heart: we’re all going through battles of our own. We always will be. We. You, me, and especially that Dupree dude. If Aloe Blacc can sing me out of my misery, then this must mean our connection to each other is like the needle to a record – they make our world(s) go round. These connections that transfer bits of insight inject each of us with perception and compassion. On the record and off.
Sharing our own avenues of self-expression and the little things in life (ie. sharing a story, calling someone just to say hello) is the pause that I am so grateful for, to this never-ending trek up this friggen steep mountain.
The Don’t Quit poem.
I don’t know WHAT’S going on with the planets right now (wait, actually I do!), but it seems like everybody around me is in a bit of a funk. Often quoted by Malcom X, here’s a poem for those who are a bit disenchanted with life right now :]
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems uphill,
When funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit;
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out,
Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late, when the night’s slipped down,
How close he has to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you can never tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit -
It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.
Special occasions only.
