Now Playing: Erykah Badu – Love

“Our emotions have a vibratory frequency to them.
There are only two emotions that humankind experience:
Fear and Love, while other emotions branch either
directly or indirectly from these two emotions.
Fear has a long and slow frequency vibration to it,
While Love has a very rapid and high frequency.”

“I wanna know what real love is like”

“I wanna do it right
trial and error, it aint over night
pack a bag stay overnight
it’s gonna take a whole lot of work
so roll your sleeves up
better change ya shirt
this love thing’s hard ya might get hurt
but flowers can’t grow without the dirt
I wanna know what real love is like”

Fresh white tee + NY fitted, dude walking through the park speaking from his heart… can’t hate on that!

Yes, whatever did happen to taking your time? I’ve always been an advocate of takin’ it slow like John Legend, but when I am actually in a “situation,” that shit goes out the window and Im rollin’ down the freeway so fast, it’s over before I have time to even process how it all began. Even those times, when I thought I was taking it slow, I was doing it in the wrong way (that’s what she said). I blame it on our world’s view of time. Everything is go Go GO! in this internet-based era. We live in a crazy reality based on instant gratification (Im just kidding. I really only blame myself, but it’s definitely still a factor!). Life feels like a highway in which we are all speeding on (way over the limit), cutting each other off, all trying to get to the destination first. It didn’t feel this cut-throat back when I was a tween, even a few years ago. I guess you could argue that I was young, and priorities were different then, but somehow that argument isn’t good enough for me. Is the generation that I belong to, now considered “old school”? What a crazy thought!

Well anyways, all I know is Im thankful for tracks like this to remind us to slow our roll. I feel relieved knowing that there are still people out there with good heads on their shoulders. Ima be cliché and say, “What’s meant to be won’t pass you by”, and in order to exercise that phrase, you gotta keep checking in with yourself, keep trusting yourself. In my past experiences, I have continued on to what “felt” right, even though there was a little voice kicking me in the ass, screaming “not yet! not yet!”. I THOUGHT I made decisions based on my own instincts, but rather it was based on what I (thought I) wanted in order to fill a certain void. Lesson learned.

If I have now become one of those people who start saying “Man, back when I was your age…,” that is quite fine by me, because at least I have core values that I live by – you gotta have a foundation. My “old school” principle #1? Love. :)

What’s your name?
What you do?
I love the way, the way you move.
Let me be your lover

Pecha Kucha

Photos from our group Pecha Kucha project. Pecha Kucha, birthed in Japan, is a simple visual presentation that is timed to go along with a speech. Each slide is supposed to have a strong image with no words (if any, at the most 6 words) and is on for 20 seconds.
Along with my fear for public speaking, it’s pretty damn nerve wrecking because you have to have your speech perfectly timed to the slides… and on top of all that it’s a group project. Challenging, but loads of fun at the same time. After we did our presentation in front of the whole program (including profs and the program heads), I felt like I overcame a huge obstacle, and knocked that asshole Fear, down once again (relentless mofo!).

What helped me deal with the nerves (besides the obvious – practice) is: visualizing our group rocking it flawlessly; reminding myself that I am not going to die, and if the worst possible thing that happens is judgement being passed, then this is no biggie after all; a couple of sips of Vodka (hey, it was a team-building exercise aiite); comparing this to an emcee timing his rhymes over a beat; getting myself amped on the opportunity to share something with someone… it’s all in the mind. “As you think, so shall you become.” – Bruce Lee

See if you can guess what our topic was by looking at some of the photos:
