Highlight of my day!
Now Playing: Jesse Boykins III x Smoke Dza – Runaway (4rm A G.O.O.D. Man)
JB3 is definitely one of my faves right now – a few of his tunes are on at least 3 of my playlists, and that’s always a good sign . Beyond his unique voice (and his cool ass hair), it’s the attitude and explanations behind his tracks that get at me. He stands for something (love), and it is attributed very prominently through his music. *sigh!*
“I feel like most of us, try and compromise with love and put ourselves thru relationships that are clearly not good for our health, which drives us to do things to pacify the confusion. When the overall best thing to do is let it go.”
– Jesse Boykins III
“let’s light it for the lovers
burn one for the nice guys
light it up for the gentleman
who aint afraid to give love a try”
The Don’t Quit poem.
I don’t know WHAT’S going on with the planets right now (wait, actually I do!), but it seems like everybody around me is in a bit of a funk. Often quoted by Malcom X, here’s a poem for those who are a bit disenchanted with life right now :]
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems uphill,
When funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit;
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out,
Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late, when the night’s slipped down,
How close he has to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you can never tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit -
It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.
Flashback Mondays: Jamal – Fades Em All
Last Chance, No Breaks, 1995 | Producers: Redman, Rockwilder | Sample: “Ready to Die” – The Notorious B.I.G.
Now Playing: Blu & Exile – Party of Two
I been on my Blu ish the past couple of weeks! One of the most underrated MCs out there. I bet he would have good chemistry with J. Cole. Do it up Blu!
Another lagoon that is about a 15-20min drive from my pad. One thing that I LOVE about Victoria, is all the different outdoor chill spots. Even though it’s a public place, you still get a sense of privacy when enjoying the picturesque view. The ocean, clouds, and mountains all feel like they belong to you.
Oh yeah, and I love that I’m still able to wear shorts right now
Tourist in my hometown.
This past weekend I went back to Edmonton to surprise my ladies. It was one of my most favourite moments ever, their faces were priceless! We ate, we drank, we were hella merry. Although I didn’t get to see everybody that I wanted to, my weekend satisfied a lot of voids/cravings I had (Bua Luang’s Pad Thai & Green Curry with coconut rice, Ling Wok’s Green Onion Cakes, SECOND CUP COFFEE). What was most interesting about this trip though, was I felt like a visiter. Everything was familiar, yet there was no attachment. Where I felt at “home,” was when I was with my peoples. Home REALLY is where the heart is! (I realize I may have exercised that phrase a little too much, but recent situations have made me realize that over and over again)
My goddaughter, Lexi haha. We missed each other

Jesse Boykins III, the Love Monster.
“I am a reawakening of the Romantic Movement ; an observer of Love and the Power it holds. So when given the opportunity to document my priceless experiences and connect them with moments in melody I’ve captured, I am humbled. Amorous is my appreciation for the relationship and the magic it holds between two people. The essence of a bond and its affect on its environment for the better. Special thanks to London for its environment and the Lovers that shared their intimacy. The Beauty Created.”

Flying Lotus – Fall in Love
Found this as a draft, no idea why I didn’t publish this! Ahh well… better late than never right?!
Who doesn’t love a Dilla tribute? Flying Lotus offers proper homage to the fallen master with his own rendition of Slum Village’s “Fall In Love” (Fantastic, Vol. 2). Whether you love listening to straight instrumentals or not, Flying Lotus infuses downtempo jazz in a manner that draws you in, wanting more.
